how do I change the background color on pages I try to print or view?

when I installed/downloaded Mozilla/Firefox originally, I "set" an option that changed the "background" color for certain pages that I download. When I try to print some pages, the entire background (or some blank spaces) is printed in a purple color. (It uses too much ink to print a page.) Can't find where I can change the original settings I used and make the background white, or no color at all.
