Cannot add Firefox sync to a device

Just updated two LAN PC's to Firefox 5. The first went smoothly. The second, which could not update to 4.1 despite numerous attempts, could only be upgraded to 5.0 by going to Mozilla.com and installing 5.0 over previous versions. This worked but in the process lost History, Bookmarks, Zotero and Sync. When I try to Add Sync to the deficient computer all goes well except the screen that comes up on the computer that has Sync and the other features does not allow entry of the three four digit codes. Going to the option "Other device not available" does not work. When I enter my username, password and Sync Key it tells me that my username or password is wrong. They were entered exactly as recorded at the time the Sync Key was provided. Is there a way to obtain the username and password that Sync has stored? Or, a way to make the computer accept the codes?
