Though the 3ball icon lights up the triangle no longer appears on youtubs,dailymotion,etc.. This happened on 6/16 suddenly and for no reason I can understand.The download helper function is one of the main reasons I switched to firefox and worked fine for nearly a year.

I have the same problem, but there is a work around.

When have a video ready to download then 1) select "tools" from the menu bar 2) select "downloadhelper" 3) select "media" 4) select the video file you want to download from the popup list 5) then select the action you want to take from that popup list

Could not download: error message "connection failure at mozilla.addons.org"

This problem started for me coincidentally with going to a "Mac Cleanup" site. Did not get that utility, just visited the site via a link on another web page. Only coincident? Also the page for v 4.9.2 now has a problem. The link for the addon gives connection failure error message.

They really messed up with 4.0.1 on Mac OS X: Update 4.2.9 does nothing. Changing to "Open Menu" does nothing. Still no triangle! The "work around" is very inefficient. OT, a new "feature" adds the f4v suffix to some files when this never happened before. I want the files to be flv and have to change the suffix manually to get the files to function.Why is Download Helper getting so messed up?

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

But all this malwear stuff (some which has to be purchased) is for Windows, not Mac OS. What good would it do for someone running OS X, as stated above? I've installed the latest Firefox (5.0) and Download Helper (4.9.3). STILL no triangle!

Try to reset all dwhelper prefs on the about:config page via the right-click context menu and delete localstore.rdf as well if that didn't help.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am a user. After a scary warning I opened the context menu as instructed. It's a huge list of stuff. I am not about to start mucking about in there! I wouldn't even know what the relevant things were. And if I found some, wouldn't know what to do with them. One shouldn't have to be some computer guru to get the current version of dwhelper to work. Sad that Mac users are apparently now stuck with having to use what is, in effect, a legacy version of dwhelper with 5-steps through the pull-down menu just to download something. {For efficiency, tried the accelerator keyboard shortcut for quick download, Ctrl+Shift+Q. The Mac thought I wanted to shut it down!}

Surprise!-Could this have anything to do with the fact that Google just bought VideoDownloadHelper?Google,I am not selling your videos I download from Youtube.I just want an easy way to download them so I can watch them later or show them to friends.I want my choice of file types and resolutions also-MP4 in 720P for my Aluratek Cinepal PMP and .flv or .mp4 at any other resolutions for my Trio T4300.I'll probably be using KeepVid a lot more now because it gives me those choices even though you have to do a few more clicks to get the video.
