Why dosen't Firefox 4 work properly with the tablet input panel?

I'm new to tablet pcs. I just got an Asus Eee slate and I've noticed that Firefox 4 has problems with the tablet input panel.

Normally, as with all other programs I use, the TIP icon pops up when the pen point hovers over a text field. This is not the case with F4. To get the TIP icon I have to at least click the field which is unnecessary in IE or Chrome. This makes it impossible to select text in a field and then bring up the TIP to make changes because clicking the field deselects the text!

Sometimes even a click won't bring up the TIP icon. Sometimes it takes several clicks. Too often I am locked out altogether and have to click a blank part of the page first or switch to another tab or application before it will let me edit a field.

Displaying the TIP icon is not the only problem F4 is having with my tablet. If I select text in any other application while the TIP is open it then appears in the TIP for editing. But not in F4 it seems. Even worse is the fact that selecting text while using the floating TIP closes the TIP!

Also the TIP sometimes starts running all my words together without entering the spaces between inputs. This is apparently due to F4 mistakenly signaling the TIP that I'm in an email address field where there are usually no spaces. Once it starts doing this I have to leave the current field and come back before it starts working correctly. As if adding insult to injury, this feature never works in actual email address fields!

Apparently earlier versions of Firefox also had trouble with tablets and the TIP which lead to the development of the GeckoTlP add-on. Unfortunately I would have to go back to 3.0.x in order to use it.

Thank you for your help.

Kevin.
