I followed the instructions for FF4 Password Manager, yet my UserIDs & passwords are not saved and I have to retype them everytime

FF rarely prompts me to save my passwords and none appear to be saved for all of my accounts. When creating this acct to ask a question, I was prompted to save it, yet none of my existing accounts are saved and I have to retype them every time which is a PIA. The Password Manager account settings are set correctly. I do not want to change any of my PWs to see if I am prompted to save them. What else can I do?
