I was finally able to correct the following problem by Removing the media player plug in with the link below and then running the .exe file a second time to re-install the plugin although my list of add-ons does not list media player

I upgraded to FF 4.0 running Windows 7 and Windows Media Player stopped working. I tried to install the wmpfirefoxplugin but the install fails with a message "not compatible with this version of FF"

I had installed the plugin with each previous upgrade of FF and although this is a pain it allowed media player to work porperly. If I start in "safe mode" I see that FF tells me I am successfully running 3.6.something and the plugin works just fine.
