I have the same problem....when using the mouse...but using the up/down arrows (keyboard) it works fine. Its a small problem but non the less annoying.

Mouse clicking wouldn't work for me either in the Google drop down box but up/down keys followed by enter do. I hope a quick fix is in order for this.

I had the same problem and was super frustrated. I had gotten spoiled by the ability to select from suggestions in the drop down. I searched high and low and found no solution - and didn't find one - so I created one. This works for me because I use Google Shortcuts for favorite URLs (puts them in a dropdown box rather than horizontal line) , so the only thing I was using the google toolbar for was the search box.

3. 3. Drag search up to where old google search box used to be

With this solution, I get the partial search terms and can click on them with my mouse. Google shortcuts keeps my gmail, calendar, google doc, analytics, etc. right there for easy access.

Yes, using the down arrow key works then either hitting Enter or clicking on the Google Search icon next to the toolbar, but this is annoying compared with how it normally lets you click on the suggested search terms and then auto-executes the search. Definitely merits a fix vs. any workarounds.

Same problem here after upgrading to Firefox 4. I can use the down arrow and then hit enter when the search term matches what I am looking for, but I agree that this is annoying. Much easier to choose with the mouse then to have to use the keyboard...

Thank you for the workaround, angelwalk, but I agree with dmosher that a fix is needed, not an end-user workaround! This is obviously a bug introduced by Firefox 4.

Moving the Google search bar to the top level next to the FF address bar helps...that will activate mouse clickability on the google suggestions, BUT the dropdown history links still have to be activated using the arrow down and enter keys.

Re the small search box, you can resize it, but in FF 4 (or at least in my version here) this can only be done when the menu bar is active. So first make sure the menu bar is active. Then, you can resize the search box in the Google bar by dragging the divider icon that is located just behind the word Search. (And you can hide the menu bar again after that, if you want to).

Okay - now Firefox knows that almost 400 people have this problem. Are you going to fix it or do we need to revert to the previous version - it came with 4.0.

The same issue occurs with the Yahoo search box. In both Google and Yahoo I can move the cursor over the suggestion and hit the enter key. This is annoying and occurred as soon as I downloaded FF 4.

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 4.0 version I have not been able to use my Google Toolbar to search for anything. Nothing comes up to search, and there is certainly no history of previous searches because not even one search is successful. Google is a large part of my browsing experience. You can try to uninstall and reinstall the latest Google Toolbar.

You can adjust the size of the search box. There is a link between the word Search and the buttons, just drag it one way or the other.

Is there any way to send a request directly to Mozilla to get this fixed?

I'm really surprised that Mozilla hasn't responded to this issue at all - it's clearly a problem with 4.0 and it seems Mozilla would be anxious to fix it, or at least give assurances it will be fixed. I like Firefox a lot more than IE, but will return to IE if I must because it's important to me to be able to get answers to questions.

I also have the same problem with the Google auto-complete box in the Google toolbar, the addresses listed under will simply not load neither is the auto-complete functioning at all. Using the up-down enter keys on my keyboard is really a pain. Will Mozilla fix this anytime soon? I have Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bytes service pack 2. This is the first time I have had problems with FF. I also use Norton and this seems to be incompatible FF 4.
