force grab keyboard shortcut?

Is there any way to force firefox to "grab" the keyboard shortcuts? I mean, often some scripts or plugins, and especially a Flash grabs keyboard actions, resulting in Firefox shortcuts failing. It seems that if a flash media, say, a video player, is embedded, firefox cannot get the "Ctrl-T" command and create a new tab. Lots of other navigating shortcuts are concerned as well. So is there anything to force firefox to grab keyboard shortcuts like in a virtual machine?
