Old session web page tabs keep opening whenever I start a new browser session

Am using Windows 7 with Firefox and am having an annoying problem. Whenever I end a browsing session I close all the browser tabs of the sites I visited and shut down my PC. The next time I turn on the PC and open up Firefox it opens to the last page visited and includes all the tabbed sites from the earlier session. How can I correct this problem. Thanks for your help!
