Had a computer breakdown. Has to get a new one. Went from XP to Win7. Since I didn't know it was going to crash, I obviously did not "save" my bookmarks to HTML (the last time I has was a while back). On my new unit I have the FF4 Beta and am trying to restore old bookmarks. I have attached and have direct access to my old drive that has all the old information but cannot find an HTML that has the latest Pre-crash bookmarks. Am I SOL?

Chosen solution

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders

Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
You may want to uncheck the box "Hide extensions for known file types" to see the file extensions of all files.

  • XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

Bookmarks aren't stored in an HTML file in Firefox. That format is used to export bookmarks from Firefox and to import bookmarks into Firefox - it is a cross-browser interchange standard for Favorites / Bookmarks.

Then you are saying I have no way of recovering my old bookmarks if there is a crash unless I have previously saved as an HTML?

No, that's not what I said. Please read the support article that I hyperlinked.
