Further.... I can stop this behaviour by forcing the constant reload to 'Stop'. I right-click, and the 'Stop' option just below the 'Reload' is available. When I click that, everything is fine. I can recreate this by closing FF, going to Hotmail, clicking on an email so it opens, and it starts reloading over and over and over. Click 'Stop' and all is well until I close either than tab or FF. Then it starts all over again.

This is very annoying.

I think I was just lucky with the 'Reload' and 'Stop' button. It's still doing it when I open any of the emails on the Inbox and those in the folders. Same behaviour for all emails no matter where they're stored on Hotmail.

It's a bug with Hotmail that started on the 18th or 19th when they did an upgrade.

Thank you for your brilliant reply to this problem. I was thinking it was a FF problem, and now I know where the blame should go.

I get something similar as cannot scroll down on emails without the screen immediately scrolling back. Parts of the screen get blocked for no apparent reason. emails have been lost. There is no problem with IE8, Chrome, Opera or Safari.

That's interesting because I've just discovered that I can't replicate the problem using FF3.6

I just re-tested this odd behaviour in Hotmail using Chrome and IE8. It doesn't happen at all. So I tried FF3.6.11 (latest non-beta update), and discovered that it absolutely DOES NOT happen in that browser either. Is it possible that the problem is being caused by some conflict with the new JägerMonkey JavaScript engine? I know that Martin referred me to those URLs but this is very odd.

I get the exact same problem, only with the beta of firefox 4 browser. So far, this is the only website I've had this issue with. I'm not a software expert, but I'd just like to add I'm running this on Windows XP OS, just in case it might help. To the others experiencing this problem, my temporary solution is to click on the email you wish to read in, then File>Work Offline, which stops the refreshing although it is not very practical.

You can try to spoof the user agent as Firefox 3.6.13 to test if the server has a problem with the (new) Firefox 4 user agent.

There are constant problems beetween Firefox and hotmail, in a previous upgrade, it wasn't possible to read or send attached files. That's really annoying me...I have to come back to 3.6.13 and being appeal to upgrade to Firefox 4. For my part I choose to open a new mail account (gmail) because MSN is SO soo, you know.. desappointing.

I don't know how this can be marked as "solved" when it clearly is not. I do know that hitting the "escape" key after selecting a message will stop the loading and make the messages readable.

I disagree that the problem belongs to hotmail. If that were true, it would be the same with all firefox versions but it only shows up in 4.0b10.

I surely hope with all the feedback that the mozilla team gets to work on this ASAP.

Rock, if there was a method marking this "Un-solved" I'd certainly do so as I've offered up enough info to suggest that it's the latest beta version that can't cope with whatever changes Hotmail has made. A good browser needs to be functional on all major sites, and certainly Hotmail is one of those.

For me, hitting ESC doesn't stop the reloading action, and if there's a photo in the email you can just forget about trying to view it.

The beta did work with Hotmail, but MS made changes to the code and didn't test it with the current beta version as stated in the bug report (please do not comment in bug reports; you can vote instead).

Found IE Tab2. Thanks, but no. If I want IE, I'll use IE. I have FF4 installed for that very reason.

The simplest workaround for the moment is to go into about:config and set the html5.enable boolean from true to false.

The escape key will work but you have to hit it repeatedly. Another work around is to go into about:config and set the html5.enable boolean from true to false. Yet another workaround is to install the IE Tab 2 sites filter available as an addon. I am going with the boolean fix for right now.

Rock, didn't know to repeatedly hit ESC. Just tried it and it works quite okay. I'm going to pretend that I don't know how to alter the about:config file; most users wouldn't know or wish to learn how. They just want a browser to work straight out of the 'box'. If someone doesn't play the role of an old-age-pensioner with a new computer for Christmas, then who will ... besides a real old-age-pensioner that is...

Experiencing same issue, as stated VERY annoying, but NOT surprised coming from microsoft, a lot of their upgrades create other problems. Primary reason to switch browser to FireFox. Thanks for the tips on the ESC key, may look into the boolean logic. W7 64bit IE8.
