Need an updated version of sync for Firefox 4.0b9? (Post updated)

Running Firefox 4.0b9. Error message "Sync encountered an error while syncing"; error never clears. Sync site states "Not available for Firefox 4.0b9". When will sync become available for 4.0b9? This has been going on for over a week.

Update: Found the answer on another thread (https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/778175); problem was caused by adding an Ubuntu machine to the Sync acct.

Sync is built into Firefox 4.0 beta 9, you don't need an extension.

I know that's supposed to be the case, but sync didn't work for me on 4.0 beta until I added the extension; everything was then fine until 4.0b9. I've now removed the extension, restarted FF, but still get the error message.
