Firefox Sync created duplicate bookmarks; how do I delete the duplicates?

I have triplicates of bookmarks after using Firefox Sync. Far too many to manually delete. How can duplicates be deleted?

Check Places has a option to find and remove duplicate bookmarks.

I have tried this both before and after receiving this recommendation. After installing and requesting deletion of duplicates, I just got hundreds of repetitive Java error messages of some sort. It did not delete the duplicates.

Did you disconnect from the Sync server before running the detection & removal of duplicates routine?

Were those Java Script error messages?
I doubt if any extension can use Java, without a "plugin" in addition to the extension.

At the bottom of that page is an email hyperlink to provide Andy with Error Console messages, to get his help with figuring out problems with his extensions. Make sure you include information about which version of Firefox and which version of Sync your problem is associated with.
