Most well designed sites will effectively give you the newest information. It would be possible to turn off the caching but that has the disadvantage of slowing things down. The usual solution is simply to reload the page if you want it to update using View -> Reload or the Reload icon.

Is it one particular site you are having problems with ?

Are you using Firefox in offline mode ?

• is that the problem see Options window - Advanced panel - offline storage
• and https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles?s=offline+storage&as=s#w_work-offline (but note that is not the normal way of choosing the option)
• wait untill your computer is online and connected to the web before starting firefox
• use File - Work Ofline and remove the tick/check

i may be opening browser before fully online. as i am usually checking forums/news,only latest useful. will advise progress,thank you, thomas

Many news sites and forums will give you the latest information, as long as you are not 'offline' Often such sites have a timeline display of some sort, and you will note if you come back to those pages they will update correctly rather than load only your cached page.

In fact I think on many sites what happens is they use cached files for static information and live files for other information; so you get speedy loading and up-to-date information at the same time. If you use something like firebug you are able to work out what is being loaded from the internet and what is coming off the local computers cache.

@john99 it is all about the deteriorated internet service. due to all students at home. many where i live. hotmail times out and others,thus i am looking at cache copy. problem now to OPTUS for resolution. many thanks thomas

If you reopen the website automatically via session restore if you start Firefox then Firefox usually load the pages from the cache unless you use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the cache on exit.

If you want Firefox to reload the page on each visit then you can set the pref browser.cache.check_doc_frequency to 1

new page seems to be working.however now i have to re log in to my hotmail and google reader.??

• by this do you mean the location bar does not give you lists of suggestions from your 'History'
• maybe that is related to your action ",now. clear history on exit."
• you can of course modify some of those actions relating to the location bar see: Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox and Location bar search

If you have cleared your History, and then continue to clear it on exit, then you will not be provided with suggestions from your 'History' because you have no 'History' and are not creating any.

• Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
• You need an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep that cookie, especially for secure websites and if you let cookies expire when Firefox closes
• Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and password exceptions.
