the first tab opened in firefox continually loads and cannot be closed

When I open Firefox the first tab I open will continually load and cannot be closed

When I open Firefox the first tab I open will continually load and cannot be closed

Chosen solution

I've been having this problem, but just checked my themes and noticed I had an outdated/unsupported theme enabled without realizing it. The theme didn't work at all.

I enabled the default theme (which is what I thought was enabled already,) and haven't had the tab freeze again yet...

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

thanks statueofmike...when I read your post I remembered that I had recently tried a new persona and after I changed it the problem went away.

Nope - this happend after the latest firefox update - no new persona/theme.

But since, the first tab now close, but not the last one!

All of a sudden, for the past day or 2, I had the same problem. Others said to uninstall "Invisible hand" add-on, so I did. I closed ff then reopened. Voila! So far so good! Hopefully that was the problem....

Thanks to hollohan. Disabling the add-on "Invisible Hand" corrected the issue / problem for me.

I had this same problem for some time now. I did disable "Invisible Hand" add on for Firefox and rebooted and have multiple pages open now with multiple tabs and I could shut down the first tab on all the open windows. I think the "Invisible Hand" add-on is the culprit, at least in my case. It also explains why the first tab was constantly / continuously loading all the time.

hollohan fixed my issue! Thanks!

For others who don't have the add-on "Invisble Hand" I would suggest disabling any add-on which continually searches sites for some type of information. I had previously had issues with the Amazon add-on also.

This started happening to me recently too. But I never had this problem. After the 3.6.12 update I think I started having this issue. I've always been using my theme here, Strata40, with no issues. The odd thing is that this happens randomly. I would start Firefox one time and all would be fine, and then I would maybe restart it and the first tab would not stop loading nor will close. Not sure why it's happening. Can't wait till Firefox 4. It will solve ALL the world's problems.

Happens randomly---

Today first time it loaded 529 times

I have no idea what most of the "fixes" here are talking about.

Any ideas IN ENGLISH?

@gromit

Please start a new thread:

Then you can provide troubleshooting information like your operating system and installed extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and installed plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and we will be better able to help you.

In my case it seems it was a faulty update of an extension (ImageTweak) or a conflict between extensions.

See what I did to fix it for my case here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2215613&p=10868969#p10868969

If it's not the same issue for everybody I think a similar approach can be used to find out which extension is the "faulty" one.

Cheers and good luck.
