You can enable ClearType system wide for all programs to make other programs like Firefox use it.

XP: Control Panel > Display > Appearance > Effects: "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts"

Nonsense, I am not a fool.

I know all about ClearType etc..

The problem is Firefox vis-a-vis other (even might say but of course better) browsers like Chrome, Safari. Heck, even, IE´s newer versions have better font-rendering than Firefox on either MacOS or Win. The italics displayed on Firefox with almost any Typeface border on the unreadable.
