In the Search Bar there is an option to "Manage Search Engines". When I use this function to minimise or prioritise the list of Search Engines it all looks good until next time I open Firefox and then I find that all the settings are reverted back to the default setting....... bloody annoying !!!

Details of the customizations, but not the search engines themselves, are stored in a file called search.sqlite. It is possible that this file is corrupt. Try renaming that file to see if it helps, if that is the cause then when you reset the customizations again they should stick.

  1. Open the profile folder, for details of how to find it see the profiles article
  2. Close Firefox
  3. Rename search.sqlite to search.sqlite.old
  4. Restart Firefox and reset your customizations, then test to see if they stick

Thanks TonyE, I tried what you suggested but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. On further investigation it appears that the problem only appears on my PPC G4 running OSX 10.4.11. It works fine on my MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo running OSX 10.4.11. Any other ideas ???

OK problem solved. It seems the 2 problems I was having were related and both were fixed by uninstalling the "Fast Browser Search" extension. This was done by going to Tools->Add Ons->Extensions.

You should also check some prefs on the about:config page and reset them if necessary.
