Chosen solution

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.

If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See this article to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.

Hello, My problem is similar, but just restarting Firefox gets it back to normal. If I leave it open for some days, then it starts getting slower and slower, does not always show up menu (Only a contour). I then close it, restart and it is back to normal ! I have seen this behavior since version 2 of Firefox. On my MacBook, it does the same thing, but finishes by crashing at some point. On Windows, it didn't crash so far. I tried to wait to have it crash, but just keep going, slowly ! Since it takes a while before it starts slowing down, it is difficult to troubleshoot... Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

I am having the same problem as GTA_doum. Firefox gets slower and slower if left open for a day or two, and then when I restart Firefox it's fine for a day or two and then gets slower and slower. Help!
