changed my profile name and created a new default yet profile manager deleted my old profile when I deleted the new default profile

I'm using ff 3.6.8 and I tried creating a new profile. Thus, I entered the profile manager and changed my main profile named default to defaultold and created a new profile which I named default in the same profile folder in appdata roaming mozila. At this time I had 2 working profiles. However, once I deleted the new profile "default" from the profile manager and created it back again (since I wanted to start clean again) I found out that only one profile is working, the new one! In the profile manager I see both defaultold and default yet I can login only to the new empty default. Once I try to login to defaultold I get the message: firefox cannot not use the profile "defaultold" because it is in use it is in use to continue close the running instance or choose another profile. When I checked the folder in appdata roaming mozinla profile I didn't find my original profile and I think it was completly deleted!!!
