Upgraded to Snow Leopard, now Firefox can't download files

Firefox will no longer download files ... at all! Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard Mac OS X 10.6.4 it is unable to download. I've upgraded Firefox to the most recent version 3.6.8 -- which I had to do using the Safari browser, since Firefox won't download anything -- but still nothing.

I've tried using the Download Manager plugin too, and that doesn't work either.

This happened

Every time Firefox opened
