I am making a guess here, because I don't use either Personas or Firefox Sync.

Tools > Sync - Preferences Select Firefox will: Use my custom settings Then de-select Sync Preferences.

See if that stops your Personas from being part of the Sync process.

That was my original thought but there's nothing that explicitly mentions Personas. I'm not sure if it's lumped in with some other functionality but I'd be pretty loath to give up one of the categories.

I may not actually use Sync, but I do have it installed in a Profile that I use to gain a little knowledge about addons that a lot of Firefox users have installed. I looked at the available choices for syncing that's the only thing that makes sense to me. I used Weave when it was first being developed, but lost interest in using it as I realized how bad they were going to "dumb it down" for the average user.

Personas are saved in the preferences file - first to about:config and then to prefs.js as Firefox is closed. Sync Preferences is the only item that makes sense to me as doing the Personas sync.

That seems to have worked which is really unfortunate. I wish Firefox Sync had a but more flexibility to it as the options seem rather broad.

You're welcome. I have investigated this issue a little more and I have found this hidden preference in about:config that was added by the Sync extension. services.sync.prefs.sync.extensions.personas.current

You can try setting the pref to False and see if the synchronization of your Personas stops.

(Actually, Sync has many prefs in about:config - I'm am going to see if I can find a resource that defines what each pref does, when I get the time.)

I tried setting this to false on both machines I use to sync and re-enabled sync preferences but it unfortunately changed the persona again. I'm not sure if something else needs to be changed or that entry is actually for some other function but thanks very much for offering the suggestion. I appreciate all the help you've offered me.

I can't see a separate pref for Personas in a Profile where Sync is the only extension is installed.

My suggestion is for you to post this issue at the Firefox Sync / Weave support forum over here - http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_labs/products/mozilla_labs_weave_sync - and hope one of the Sync developers see's it and can put that on a "to-do" list for that project, especially since "Sync" is probably going to be a part of Firefox 4, instead of being an extension like it is now.

I see 26 prefs that can probably be used to turn off specific preferences or settings for the sync, and I think being able to turn off the sync of saved Personas should be as important as any of the other prefs. services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.--
