How do I change a previously saved (in Firefox) online username and password that has now changed?

I try to navigate to the login OR homepage of a password protected site and it sends me into a loading loop or "invalid user name" error page (depending on which portal I attempt to enter through). How do I reset the username and password saved in Firefox? I tried deleting the sites and associated passwords in the security options tab already and it hasn't worked.
