Firefox crashes immediately upon opening and crashes in safe mode too

Posted

Mac 10.5.8. I can't open FF - it crashes immediately. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling FF and it still does the same thing. I've restarted my computer too and started in safe mode. I checked all the boxes in the safe mode window and tried to continue and restart but just keep crashing. Any help is appreciated. I can't get FF to open so there is no crash ID.

User Agent

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_8; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0 Safari/533.16

Please post your crash report IDs. Type about:crashes in the URL/location bar, press the Enter key, copy and paste the "Report ID(s)" into a response to this message. Does Firefox crash in Safe Mode?

Firefox Safe Mode You may need to use Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode (click on "Safe Mode" and read) to localize the problem. Firefox Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that disables Extensions and some other features of Firefox. If you are using a theme, switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes before starting Safe Mode. When entering Safe Mode, do not check any items on the entry window, just click "Continue in Safe Mode". Test to see if the problem you are experiencing is corrected.

See: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems

If the problem does not occur in Safe-mode then disable all of your Extensions and Plug-ins and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears. You MUST close and restart Firefox after EACH change via File > Restart Firefox (on Mac: Firefox > Quit). You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window.

I was able to fix the problem by using AppCleaner to completely uninstall FF. Then i reinstalled and it opened without a problem.
