Installer program to build a customized version of Mozilla Firefox into an installer?

Posted

I run my own small tech business, and a requirement when it comes to optimizing a client's internet usage is to install Mozilla Firefox. I install a universal set of add-ons as well, and I am hoping if there is a possible way to obtain an officially supported install-build application that could do that. I would prefer if supported by Mozilla to keep it secure and safe to use. This way I can take less time installing specific add-ons for every client, and I would have less trouble about forgetting what add-ons to install.

It would cost you big bucks to have Mozilla do a custom Firefox version with specific addons included, plus that custom build would need to be updated every month or two as new minor version security releases were made by Mozilla.

My suggestion is to set up your own Collection of addons and then point your clients to your collection at AMO so they can install all the addons in one action. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/collections/editors_picks

You can used the Addon Collector extension in your own Firefox installation so you can easily add additional addons to your collection at AMO as you need to. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/collector Check out the features for the Collector addon. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/collector_features

Thanks. What I was trying to say is to build an installer that would get the personalized installed copy of Firefox and just automatically install it through there. Thank you for the links, however.

Chosen Solution

To integrate the [http://code.google.com/p/ff-cckwizard/ cckwizard] with a personalised installer see http://kaply.com/weblog/2010/06/18/customizing-the-firefox-installer-on-windows/ and (older link) http://www-archive.mozilla.org/projects/cck/firefox/wininstall.html
