I have attempted to upgrade my version of Firefox at least 4 times. Every time I do, it goes through the installation process without problems. Then when I open it, and, for example, go onto Youtube, I'm still told to upgrade to the newest version. I don't know how to fix this.. Any advice? P.S. I'm not very good with computers, so simple computer lingo is appreciated :-)

Hello Mellisa.

First, download Firefox 3.6 from getfirefox.com (the official page). It's completely free, as always. Then make sure the installer (the file you just downloaded) is stored safely in your computer in a place you can remember (the desktop works fine).

Now, go into your Windows Control Panel, then Add and Remove Programs (or something like that) and uninstall Firefox. No data will be lost.

Now open the installer you downloaded. Install Firefox as normal and open it.

All should be working correctly then.

Hi,

Looks like a program/add-on you installed (Megaupload) is causing Firefox to tell sites its an old version.

Here is how to fix that:

  • Type about:config in the URL bar and hit Enter
  • If you see a warning, you can confirm you want to proceed.
  • In the filter textbox, type or paste in general.useragent.
  • Right-click the preferences that are bold, one line at a time, and select Reset,
  • Then restart Firefox
