Can I use an Excel spreadsheet to build address books?

I've recently started using Thunderbird in place of Microsoft Outlook. I have also upgraded from Windows 10 to 11. Unfortunately, my mailing groups that I used in Outlook did not transfer as groups. I was able to import my contacts as a .csv file and I have now set these out in an Excel spreadsheet. My contacts are now in alaphabetic order so whilst I have the contact data such as emails, all of my previous mailing groups are now mixed together!

Is there any way that I can select either individal enties on my spreadsheet or maybe multiple entries and import them into a new address book?

Any ideas or experience would be very helpful.

Here's one approach that might be the simplest: import your csv with all the contacts to TB:

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_address_list_from_text_file

Select the imported address book in Address Book and click the New List button (right of the New Contact button). Name the list and close it. Select contacts in the address book (hold Shift or Ctrl to select multiples) and add them to the list by drag and drop onto the list icon. Repeat for other lists.
