Please bring back xPunge
I just want to put in a request to correct whatever code issues that stopped the plugin xPunge from working starting with TB 140.0.1. I upgraded to this version without knowing there would be this issue. Rather than roll back, I was hoping it would be something that would be resolved quickly, as I know there has been a lot of work on the code for compacting folders recently. I like to keep my folders in good condition, emptying the trash and compacting folders regularly throughout the day. That is a very tedious process when you have four different accounts. xPunge solved that issue nicely. Thanks for the consideration. This is an ADDON, not maintained by Thunderbird, so I am surprised that there is a bug on this. I encourage you to contact developer for updates. With a few tweaks, it is working for me in 141.
I contacted the developer. He said there is some issue within TB itself since version 140 that is interfering with xPunge. He posted information in the bug report. What did you do to make it work in TB 141? For me, it is disabled. Thanks for your attention.
Ok, no guarantees, as it is a hack and the bug, whatever it is, still exists. But it works. To do this, the xpi file is simply a zip file, so unzip it. one of the files is manifest.json. a simple text file so easy to edit. in the file is a line for min version and max version. just change number for max version, save and rezip and rename back to an xpi suffix.
Thanks for the info. I don't want to run the risk of corrupting my profile, so I guess I will wait a little longer to see if the bug can be fixed.
Thanks for the info David. I tried it. Got the icon back but it's not working. I changed max to 150 so it should have......
Lindak, recheck what you did because it does work. I suggest restarting from scratch and then viewing the manifest.json afterwards to compare with the original. Every character is important, so just change the max number, nothing else.
Hi David, Thanks for the response. I tried redoing what you suggested. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong somewhere. I'm having all sorts of trouble trying to unzip, rezip, rename. It looks like I did everything correctly - just the max number, but I still don't have the tools lit up when I go to manage xpunge and still get the message that it's not compatible with Thunderbird's edition. I guess I'll have to just pray that somebody gets a permanent fix on this that I can download. It this point I will probably have to uninstall and reinstall it if they do fix it.
Just putting this out there again. There have been several updates to TB since I posted this, and none of them seem to address the TB bug that is disabling xPunge. I continue to support TB, but I hope this could be addressed soon. Thanks.
