hanging on "Host contacted, sending login information"
hello,
I have been away from this laptop for about 7 months; now, when I try to access TBird, it seems to hang indefinitely [I haven't timed it but it seems like more than half an hour, maybe a lot more] displaying "xxxx@xxxxx.com: Host contacted, sending login information" in the bar at the bottom of the screen ... Every once in a long while, it jumps up and asks for my password. I give the one that relates to the "xxx" email address above and it rejects it as incorrect. I have checked that the password works to get into this account on webmail.
Can anyone help? I don't remember having this problem before. I am using TB 115.10.1 (64-bit) many thanks, filter feeder

do you have an antivirus product. That sounds like it may well be blocking Thunderbird. Normally a failed connection attempt would time out in 5 minutes, that is is not indicates outside interference. The antivirus mail scanner is the most obvious place to start.
hello, I don't know what the protocol for saying "still need help with this" but nothing I've tried has helped and this evening I let impatience get the better of me and having changed my password and set my server to pop3 I removed my primary Tbird account, thinking to create a new nearly identical one and find that all my email has disappeared ... and this is the place that I keep everything I want to keep. I know that I have a profile somewhere but I have no idea when I last backed it up so I guess I just flushed a lot away by trying to leap over a few steps...
Can anyone help? I have the same problem now as before except that I have created a new account but see that there is actually no account, just "local" folders listed when I go to "get email" ... and I can't set up a new account as it's greyed out my information and is still looking for a handshake ... or something.
worser and worser .. filterfeeder

hello again, I wanted to answer Matt who suggested that an antivirus program might be to blame and I have looked around but as far as I know I have only Windows Defender and the Windows firewall that came with the laptop I am using ... Thanks for your suggestion, Matt, and if these could be the problem (a problem which started out of the blue when I came back to this laptop after being away since mid-October 2024), I need to know what to do -- just turn them off?
