Can an extension reload itself on Firefox startup, if it's in an open tab?

I am using an extension to monitor websites. I would like to start it as homepage. Unfortuantely, it does not come up active. It requires a manual reload (Ctrl-R) because it doesn't fully start.

Is it possible to automate this initial reload?

If not, can the extension developer force the reload on browser startup?
