''Desktop'' Usually Firefox starts up in a normal (non-private) window, and you have the option to open additional regular and private windows. If you set Firefox to "Never remember history," then it runs purely with private windows. If that's the problem, you can return to the Settings page, Privacy & Security tab, scroll down to the History section, and change the selector: * Firefox will: Remember history => this should allow the normal options * Firefox will: Use custom settings for history => make sure that "Always use private browsing mode" is NOT selected If that's not the problem, are you trying to hide the private browsing option from other users?
