how to use /dev/shm for global-messages-db.sqlite?
How can I tell thunderbird on Linux to create and use global-messages-db.sqlite in an arbitrary directory, eg /dev/shm instead of slow NFS storage? I know it will be gone on the next reboot, but that doesn't matter to me.

You can't. It is not a user option.

Disable global search will probably see you have no global DB, but it's location is not user configurable.
