I'm wondering if there is a possibility that Thunderbird will support smb links like: \\127.0.0.1 -> file://127.0.0.1/ in future versions?

the links cannot be activated concerns smb . There are listed options to try to deactivate these features so you can try that although it has never been shown if it works or not.It is up to you if these features will do it.
