My Firefox has been infected with MyNewTab. All attempts to remove it with various malware-removing software have failed. It does not appear in any list of installed software. I have found that I can only stop it from interferring with firefox by uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it - without syncing. So I am now trying to reinstatre Firefox to more or less how it was before.
The only real issue is that before it had an add-on - Norton Safe Web - which is not added now. I tried uninstalling Norton 360 and reinstalling it in the hope it would get the addon added. It didn't. But according to what I read it is very easy to add an add-on. I can select it from the list of add-ons, thus displaying a page all about it. According to help notes, you just click to add-on this choicre. But I can see nowhere to click to do it. I've been over that page time after time but see no way of progressing.

First you should install the Browser standalone to insure it's working before doing anything else. Also advice Norton isn't going to help since it obviously didn't stop whatever happened to your browser with that infection. Also Addon issue is best direct to the Addon Developer as FireFox only host Addon and doesn't provide support for Addon issues. Also stop all or disable sync to verify the issue isn't infecting other devices if there is sync being used. You should also try Private Mode browser to verify it works as well. And check your Addon listing to verify nothing was installed that wasn't suppose to.
So how to I get the Norton Safe Web add-on added to Firefox? [I assume that the mechanics of adding an addon is determined by firefox regardless of what the add-on is and who wrote it].
