I thought I had the latest and greatest Fxfx version, but in the last couple of weeks every time I open Fxfx I was getting a notice that I'm not running the latest version and that I need to close or create a new profile. This is getting really old. So, I go to the website and download Fxfx 64 Bit version and try and run it and my computer now says Blocked by Group Policy and to contact Admin. I have most of the admin rights on my computer and I've never had trouble loading Fxfx before. Any idea what is up with Fxfx?

Hi Thomas, could you go ahead and create that new profile Firefox wants to create. You'll have the opportunity to switch to a different profile later.

Then take a look at the Troubleshooting Information page for more information about your version of Firefox. This article will get you in:

Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues

In the first table, the most useful rows are:

Version => currently should say "104.0.2"

User Agent => currently should say "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:104.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/104.0" for Windows 10

What does yours say?

Regarding the group policy point:

Inside Firefox, type about:policies in the address bar and press Enter to load that internal page. Normally, the Active panel says "The Enterprise Policies service is inactive." Does yours list any policies?

You can inspect the Mozilla and Firefox keys with the Windows Registry Editor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and in HKEY_CURRENT_USER with the Windows Registry Editor to see whether GPO policy rules are active.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\

Note that the mere presence of the "Mozilla\Firefox\" key is sufficient to make Firefox display this notification, so if you have the Firefox key then remove it and only leave the Mozilla key or remove this key as well if it is empty.

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\ =>
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\

Thank you both. When I finally get the latest version installed, I'll try the troubleshooting tool.
