Hi, I'm sorry to start the thread like this, but i can't take this anymore. Using Firefox is becoming more and more of an annoyance and I need help finding out what to do on my side, or if there are some known issues on the browser's side. First of all, here's my PC's configuration and usage style: - Windows 10 x64 Pro, intel i7-4790 processor, 16GB RAM @2133 MHz, GTX 1650 video card with 4GB, 2 Sata 3 HDDs split between operating system/core programs and other stuff like games and useless things. - (usually) using the latest version of Firefox x64, running 2 windows of it, each with around 20 tabs open. Using UBlock Origin and Adblock Plus extensions on every page. - the operating system and everything else was freshly (re)installed around 6 months ago. That meant formatting and redoing everything from scratch on the system partition. I did save/export my firefox profile to reuse it on the new installation. - also: having only the MalwareBytes antivirus, using 2 monitors and having a 500MBytes/s internet connection (cable) stabilizing at about 90% of that during speed tests. - task manager usually shows a CPU usage of 10-80%, memory of ~51%, disk of 0-10%, GPU of ~20-30% (i.e. when not doing anything else). Thus, here are the huge annoyances i've been having for a while now (i think since version 56 or so, but not before!). I'm usually watching one stream (i.e. one open tab) on twitch.tv @1080p, and... 1) If I try to close this specific (twitch) tab, both of my Firefox windows lock up for ~2 minutes. 2) Refreshing this tab *sometimes* starts kind of an infinite loop when the page looks like it's loading, it remains partially blank (except for some borders) and unresponsive, and never finishes. 3) Other times, refreshing this tab takes like 5-7 minutes (loading time). Same behavior using F5 or Ctrl+F5. Nevertheless, if I click on the link in the address bar, after some seconds of loading, and press Enter, the page loads immediately, like it should have from the beginning. 4) Why does ONE tab lock up 2 Firefox windows?!?! what's the point of tabs if they are not independent processes?! My task manager shows 20-30 underlying Firefox processes, I can close them one by one, but they don't anything. It's like they don't do anything - no tabs get closed, no windows get closed, the performance isn't affected at all. Moreover, if I do close the tab that has the most processor usage, both firefox windows get forcibly closed (while being locked up by the 1 tab). 5) When searching for stuff in the address bar, there is no priority given to bookmark items that may contain related things. Doing a bookmarks search is cumbersome and makes the whole feature almost useless. There should be kind of a Google Search inside bookmarks too, when typing something in the bar. 6) Using the "Restore previous session" feature after a crash or computer restart means I need to wait like 4-5 minutes for one of the tabs to become usable. You might say that ok, I got 40 tabs and it takes a while to load them. But you'd be wrong. I do have 40 tabs, but I have to click on EACH of them to get them to reload! Which means they aren't loaded when Firefox starts and the session is restored. So why do I have to wait 5 minutes to be able to do anything in the browser?! 7) If I keep using an older version of Firefox for a while (and while a new version is available), there ALWAYS comes a time when the browser crashes or locks up completely, basically forcing me to allow the damn update. You might say I'm paranoid, but my browser never crashes while I'm on the latest version (except when I choose to crash it during to lockups from the previous points)! But when a new update is up, something definitely changes and automatically crashes the browser after a while (maybe ~2 weeks on average). I really wish the update frequency was rarer and that it stopped being suggested/forced on my browser. The behavior is the same, no matter what settings I choose for updates. I've also checked "Use a background service" to install them. 8) This isn't related to Firefox Windows, but to the Android version - I very much wish the dev team took a look at how the Dolphin browser is set up with respect to the accessibility of the bookmarks panel. In Firefox it's extremely cumbersome to use it in any way, thus making the Sync feature and bookmarks completely useless on mobile. Again, I have no idea if these are twitch.tv related or browser related, but it makes me wonder why other browsers didn't cause these issues for me, nor old(er) versions of Firefox. Also, I don't have any crash logs to show, simply because they are just lockups - either "out of the blue" (like point 7 above), or some that I forced because I really didn't have the luxury of waiting 7 minutes for a tab to load. I did "report this error to microsoft" most of the time when the lockups happen, yet I doubt anything useful ever came from that, since I've been having these issues for a few years now, and newer versions only making them worse.
