Text color --- please please restore this functionality!
In the past (at least several versions ago) I was able to select text in my outgoing message and assign it a color from a drop-down list of several colors. That feature vanished and I've been waiting for it to be restored ever since.
Now, I either have to enter a hexadecimal value or else I can choose "last picked color" but the latter is unreliable because it doesn't "remember" past sessions.
I've tried looking for themes that will do this; no luck.
I'd also love to use a theme that offers dark mode EXCEPT for the current message being composed or read.

Also, and to be more specific, when you select a color with the color picker, the only way to use the color you select is to copy/paste that HTML value. Clicking on the color chip in your list of "favorite" colors doesn't make it pop into the Thunderbird dialog box.
(using Thunderbird on macOS Monterey 12.4)
There are three options that I see: - click 'last used color' - enter a hex value - click the color icon and select from the colorpicker menu.
Somehow, I'm not understanding what you want. Please share more info. Thanks.
You are correct about the 3 options. The first 2 work OK. It's the 3rd one that is a problem.
When you click to rectangular icon that, by default is black, it opens the color picker. You can try any one of several methods to make a selection from the color picker, but none of them result in the color being applied.
Momentarily, the color appears in the place where there was previously a black rectangle, to the right of "choose a color" --- but if and only if you ignore the eyedropper and the color the the left of the eyedropper and instead click on one the "favorite" color chips.
But then, when you click OK to dismiss the dialog for selecting a color, the original black remains as it was before you begin this process.
Even if you are lucky enough to see something other than black in "Last Picked Color" it still cannot be applied.
Even if you copy the hex value from the color picker and type it into the hex value field with # preceding it --- the color you've chosen becomes visible but it still cannot be applied to the selected text in the body of the email.
I made a short video (12 mb) but I can't upload it here as an image file. Here is a dropbox link to see it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i3otx5pfd9khxxr/text%20color.mov?dl=0
This works as intended in Windows. I wasn't able to follow your video, but if you feel this is a bug, you can report it at bugzilla dot mozilla dot org. Thanks for sharing this.
There is no way to report this on the bugzilla URL you suggested. Only Firefox bugs can be reported there
If you log in to bugzilla and click the button to report a bug, this is the screen you will see. (attached). But I encourage you to not report it until you confirm the other thread you have open regarding color .
I appreciate that suggestion. Forgive me please if my attitude seems negative, but the update to TB 102 wiped out all my message filters, so I will ahve to live with the color problem until that is fixed.
Gowever, FYI, I don't see what you describe because I cannot log in to bugzilla without being told that my password is invalid. Nevertheless, I am re-logged in instantly for the purpose of replying to your message. And it blocks me after too many attempts.
Did you close the colour wheel when you selected the color.
Back in 2020 I wrote this blog article, because mac users just don't appear to think they need to close the colour wheel. https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com/2020/02/changing-text-color-and-special-issue.html
With due respect to what you suggest, I find that regardless which of the 5 color pickers I choose, the chosen color is ignored.
Are you suggesting that I should somehow open the Apple/Mac color picker window WITHOUT USING THE BUTTON IN THUNDERBIRD'S MESSAGE WINDOW? I ask that because I tried using the menu item called "Text Color" and while it does indeed open the Apple/Mac color picker dialog, the chosen color is still ignored.
Did you see the video I put on DropBox? https://www.dropbox.com/preview/text%20color.mov

Is that in troubleshooting mode (on the help menu)
