Greetings,

What I want to accomplish is having the composition of a new email look like the message that gets saved in the sent folder.

The message (after it's sent) looks exactly how I'd like to have it look, when I'm writing a new email.

The new emails are all small text and no hyperlinks are showing. Can someone point me to a setting change to accomplish this?

Thank you!

Steve

Hyperlinks get "linkified" when they are saved to draft or sent. That way you can edit the text without jumping trough hoops.

But I simply don't understand the "small text" thing.

Just as an experiment. Try holding the shift key when you click to write. Does that achieve the change you talk about?

Hi Matt, OK. I understand about the links. No problem. That is actually a good idea.

Shift + clicking Write doesn't change anything. Font size is the same with or without using the shft key.

I've attached a composite of 2 screen grabs that will show you the size difference. Maybe the visual will help us find a solution. Thanks for the help.

Also, note that in the message returning to me (I sent it to myself) the text is the same size as the copy in my Sent folder.

Another guess and probably right this time I think.

In preferences search for plain. When the send options button appears uncheck the Send messages as plain text if possible in the send options.

I have never understood why that option is turned on by default. But the developers have proven resistant to defaulting it to off. Despite the message being composed in HTML Thunderbird will convert it to plain text when you click send.

Hi Matt,

Searching for Send Options got me there. I Unchecked the box but still no change. I also set the drop down to ' Send as HTML anyway' no change.

Please keep thinking about this. maybe you'll find something I haven't.

Thank you!

If I may jump in briefly, I understand the original issue: you were composing in HTML, yet message was saved as plain text. But now you are saying the message being composed in HTML does not look the same as the sent message in HTML? Puzzling. Having font appear the same in compose window and in sent folder for plain text messages has a different solution, but I'm surprised that your PC is showing HTML differently in two places. Did you confirm that the sent message is in HTML? Thanks, and I apologize if my interruption interferes with a solution.

Hi David, You're very welcome to jump in. I'd say you're incorrect in your assumption about the original issue.

The issue is: The size of the composition window text is notably smaller that the size of the sent message text.

Yes. I see sent messages that have active hyperlinks in them so I must assume they're in HTML CTRL+U shows source and I can see the standard layout for a basic old school html page, and all of my sent messages have the same size - - - Larger text - - - which is the size I want to discover how to see in the composition window.

And as a bonus, I'm able to use CTRL+ and CTRL- to resize a sent message. No such perk during composition.

I wouldn't say my PC is showing html differently in 2 places because this is all happening inside of Thunderbird so Thunderbird is framing both situations. Composition window and reading a sent message.

Also, it might be good to note that if I sent to myself, the message I get back is identical in size to the size of the message in my sent folder, and I can also use CTRL+ and CTRL- to resize the received message.

After some more thought, I'd have to guess is is all about the composition window limiting my ability to *** view *** larger text ... not to be confused with use larger text to compose.

In Tools > Options > Composition > HTML Style I have my font size set to Verdana - Medium.

And aside, an other comment, for the life of me I can't imagine why font size is limited to Small Medium Large and why no options for a range of numbers is not available.

Anyway, Thank you for jumping in. I appreciate any stimulation with this thread that I can get.
