So. Thunderbird released an update, I updated, and all my custom event colours, that I really need, have gone from old to current see attachments. This was asked https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1326997?utm_campaign=questions-reply#question-reply

And a solution found that worked. Now Mozilla in their ludicrous wisdom have somehow screwed this up again. Anyone have a solution that works? I and lots of other people like the whole event title bar being a single colour. These 'dots' at the end are useless to see. Thanks PS Stop screwing with the settings. What to add something new, then create an add-on.

re :where is the chrome folder located in C:/users/jjv

This is not the correct location. 'jjv' is your computer 'User Account' name folder.

The 'chrome' folder needs to be in the thunderbird profile name folder.

In Thunderbird:

  • Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Application Basics' - 'Profile Folder' - click on 'Open Folder'

See first image below.

A new window opens showing contents of 'profile name' folder. This is where the 'chrome' folder need to be located. Typically, by default, it will be in a location like this: C:/users/jjv/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/'profile name' folder The 'profile name' folder will be something like this 'xxxxxxxx.default' or 'xxxxxxxx.default-release' where the x's are various letters and numbers.

  • Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.

The 'chrome' folder needs to be moved from the C:/users/jjv folder and put into the C:/users/jjv/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/'profile name' folder.

I've added another image showing where my 'chrome' folder is located.

Hello there, Thanks for your excellent instructions to change the calendar events to all color. Everything in that regard is fine now. However, I have one issue I would like to resolve if possible. All the text is white and for ones that use light colors with the text being white all the light-colored ones are very difficult to read unless I click on them. Is there any way to change the font color in all events to black? I am fairly new to TBird so I may have missed a setting somewhere. Thanks in advance for any assistance. Peter B.

Hi Toad, ..........All the text is white and for ones that use light colors with the text being white all the light-colored ones are very difficult to read unless I click on them. Is there any way to change the font color in all events to black?

Interesting....All my text is black for events in the actual calendar grid regardless of whether I use the default Light or Dark theme. It is subdued a bit if I set Status as Tentative.

Check some preferences:

Menu app icon > Preferences > General Under 'Language & Appearance' Click on 'Colours' button

Text = Black Bacground = White Do NOT select 'Use system colours' Override the colours specified.....select 'Never' click on OK

Are you using Thunderbird default 'Light Theme' ?

The code for setting the event background to category colours did not include any settings of colours for fonts. Do you have any other content in the userChrome.css file in addition to the copied code? Post image showing content of 'userchrome.css' file.

Thanks very much for the tips, I'll do some checks over the next few days and will report back. I'll number your tips for reference and copy them into a Word doc where I can add my results. Stay safe. Peter B.

Worked fine for some time.

Today, I lost my events from Google calendar. I re-activiated them in Thunderbird Calendar but now they are monochrome again.

What should I do?

From Toad-Hall: “Interesting....All my text is black for events in the actual calendar grid regardless of whether I use the default Light or Dark theme. It is subdued a bit if I set Status as Tentative.”

Hello again Toad

I checked some preferences again: “Menu app icon > Preferences > General Under 'Language & Appearance' Click on 'Colours' button “

“Text = Black, Background = White Do NOT select 'Use system colours' Override the colours specified.....select 'Never' click on OK”

The Override was NOT set to ‘NEVER’. It is now, I changed it.

“Are you using Thunderbird default 'Light Theme' ?”

Yes.

“The code for setting the event background to category colours did not include any settings of colours for fonts. Do you have any other content in the userChrome.css file in addition to the copied code? Post image showing content of 'userchrome.css' file.”

My css file is located in: FolderC:\Users\%myname%\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\profiles\n9kb68k6.default-release\chrome.

Here is a picture showing part of the calendar today.

The second calendar pic shows the text as black when I single-click on the yellow event. Other events change for a white font to black when single-clicked.

I do not know why the jpgs do not show in my reply. I uploaded them using the Add Images option.

This post was originally a duplicate of the one above, I had trouble getting it to post, and the pictures would not upload in the post where they were supposed to, they all posted at the end of the post, sometime later. I erased the text in this one, we did not need it posted twice. OOPS!

Hello,

As I said, it worked fine for some time, but then I lost contact with my Google calendar. I restored it all right, but the colors were gone.

Checked all the above, it is set like it should be. However, the colors are those of the calendars, not of the categories. Tjhks in advance.

I presume that there is no fix for my Calendar color problem? See the yellow event in the pictures, with the white font, it is almost impossible to read. The only way fonts show as black is when I click on the event. See pictures posted. My inbox is the same way problem. I'll review the suggested steps again, but I am not hopeful.

If people have not previously used 'userchrome.css': check this setting is setup.
  • Menu app icon > Preferences
  • Select 'General'
  • Scroll to the bottom and click on 'Config Editor' button
  • Accept Dragons warning
  • In search type: legacy
  • Look for this line: toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheet
If it is set to 'False'
  • Double click on that line to toggle the 'False' to 'True'
Then ....
  • Menu app icon > Help > More Troubleshooting Information
  • Under 'Application Basics' - 'Profile Folder' - click on 'Open Folder'
A new window opens shwoing contents of 'profile name' folder.
  • Exit Thunderbird now
  • Create a new folder and call it chrome - note the spelling.
The 'chrome' folder should be in the 'profile name' folder - same place as the 'Mail' folder. See image below.
  • Open a text editor like Notepad.
  • Copy everything between lines below into Notepad.

/*Calendar - categories colour across top*/

.calendar-category-box{ margin:0 0 0 -200px !important;  min-width: 200px !important; }
.alarm-icons-box,.reminder-icon{ margin:0 0 0 0 !important; }
.event-name-label,.item-time-label,.alarm-icons-box,.reminder-icon{ z-index:100000 !important; }
.calendar-item-flex{ padding:0 !important; }
.calendar-month-day-box-list-item{  margin:0 !important; }
.calendar-color-box{  border:none !important; }
.event-name-label{ white-space:break-spaces !important;  }

  • save the file as userChrome.css (note spelling) in the 'chrome' folder.

See second image.

Start Thunderbird.

osbourneworks: Follow up question, I do not appear to be able to change the colour of meetings I've been invited to. They remain the same colour of my calendar. Do you know a way to allow me to alter the colour of those meetings? An 'accepted meeting' item does not offer options to edit, because you did not create the Event, so it remains the same colour as the calendar. This does mean all accepted invites do stand out as they have no category.

The following is a workaround and it may work for you. If you use right click on 'accepted meeting' in calendar and select 'Convert to' and choose 'Task', then you can choose a Category. You can leave as a Task if that works for you - but it might be a good idea to use the 'Description' field to include data like you accepted on date x OR you can now convert that Task to an Event - It does mean you will not see the options that you have 'accepted' as it is not the accepted invite and you need to remember to uncheck the 'Notify attendees' checkbox otherwise it thinks you are wanting to send out an invite. The top menu 'Send and Close' with then change to 'Save and Close'.

I wanted it as an event. So once I'd converted to Task and then to Event - I removed the Task making sure not to send any emails notifying anything. But I chose to keep the original 'accepted' just in case I needed to eg: notify I had to decline. It means I see both side by side, occupying same date and time - Normally, you would not be doing two things at the same time, but in this situation, I can live with that as it is now obvious what is a meeting acceptance and what category is set.
