How to fix saved search folder / broken icons?

Somehow a folder ended up in a "Saved Search/Unified" Sent folder and I cannot seem to remove it. Unchecking the folder doesn't cause the "Saved Search/Unified" folder to stop including it (see screenshot). I can side-step all this by turning off the Unified Folders view entirely, but I don't understand why unchecking folders within "Select the folders to search" don't remove them from the group. Some sites say I should just be able to delete a "Saved Search" folder by right-clicking or selecting Edit -> Delete, but no delete option shows up in right-click and the option in Edit is greyed out.

Also, one of the folders, which is just a normal e-mail folder, somehow got the "Sent" icon of the paper airplane instead of a normal folder icon. Any idea how to fix this so it just has a normal icon again?

Unified View/Saved Searches can be reset by deleting virtualFolders.dat and Mail/smart mailboxes from the profile folder, with TB closed.

That didn't fix things, but did have an interesting result. Rather than seeming to reset back to some kind of base state, it reset back to the original bad state, before I unchecked the folder from the "Select the folders to search:" popup.

It's like Thunderbird thinks that the Inbox and the FolderInQuestion actually belong under Sent, even though they do not. So maybe the deeper problem is whatever is causing it to group them under Sent in Unified Folders, and not what the "search" is set to? Any ideas why it might do that?

This also didn't affect the erroneous Sent icon, but maybe that ties to the underlying issue as well. :/

I don't have any more ideas for fixing saved searches, but I suggest you create a new profile, add a couple of accounts, and see if it works properly. This might be faster than trying to debug an old profile.
