most of my email is missing
I just noticed the majority of my email folders are gone from the left column, and along with it, the email that belongs in them. Some of the folders were archives by year. I now only have email from 2021 at this point in my inbox, and just those that haven't been transferred to a folder. I hope the folders magically reappear but feeling pretty dire if they don't.....Turns out, I can use the search tool to find some things, but chunks seem to be missing still. I haven't updated anything lately.
Thanks for help.
Is the account POP or IMAP? If it's IMAP, right-click the account in the Folder Pane, Subscribe, Refresh, and see if the missing folders appear after they are checked (subscribed).Read this answer in context 👍 1

This worked. But now I am having difficulty now deleting empty folders or renaming them- some will, some won't. I usually get a message in upper right hand of screen saying the action didn't complete, and that my account..... (only part of the message displays, and clicking on it just closes it). So would like to know what that message is trying to say. I have been able to move some empty folders to the trash but they won't delete. But I at least have all my email now. Thanks!
Saw it again. "The mail server for the account...." then cut off.
If a folder is defined by the mail provider, it can't be deleted, but can be unsubscribed. For user-created folders, try deleting them through webmail for permanent removal, or unsubscribe them.
Thanks. I don't see an option to unsubscribe from an empty folder I created, but I was able to rename it to at least go to the bottom of the list. My email app just started downloading 13k emails for some reason. Maybe that is a result of the refresh. Looks like it's slowed down and I have about 400 larger emails to go. You don't have to babysit me now, though. Thanks for your help.
