I need help. I am currently trying to move my father to Linux Mint from Windows 10. I am having great difficulty with email. I moved my father to Thunderbird as it came with Linux Mint and I am somewhat familiar with Thunderbird. I was wondering if you could help?

For starters a potential bug. It seems that Thunderbird may be deleting emails after they are moved to a folder. They certainly seem to go missing. He is dragging and dropping them to the folder list. If you open the target folder you can actually see them arrive and then disappear after a second. And they are gone from the In Mail folder. Using "Move to" works but is a big pain because he has lots of folders in a deep hierarchy. (And his hands shake so he may have to go back and start over.) If I can get my father's email imported, then I would also need instruction on how to sync everything with Gmail. (Yes, I have set Gmail to use the less safe options or whatever the setting is called and turned IMAP on.)

And I have a few feature requests: I was hoping you could make it so multiple vCard files could be imported at once. I would also like it so that my father's old emails could be imported by dragging and dropping them onto the folder pane. Lastly, my father would like it so the attachments popup, the one in grey at the bottom of a message, to be allowable to show up at the top of a message.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this email.

Is he trying to move messages from Local Folders or a POP account to an IMAP folder? That often doesn't work except for small numbers at a time.

It's not necessary to enable access by 'less-secure apps' if the authentication method in TB is OAuth2 (the default for new accounts). It's not advised to upload large mail sets to an IMAP folder (see).

Merge multiple vCards to a single vcf file and import it toTB:

Eml files can be added to a subfolder of Local Folders by drag and drop from File Explorer. From there, they can be dragged and dropped to IMAP folders, with the conditions mentioned above.

There is currently no way to move the attachment pane in a Write window. It is possible for received messages.
