bookmarks dissapeared one day

more options

Hi! I have been a Firefox user on PC/Windows for a long time, years, and had quite a lot of bookmarks. One day, while various FireFox updates were happening, I noticed something, I think it was a popup, saying something to the effect that all your bookmarks will be deleted. Huh!? Couldn't click on anything to stop the install. And after computer restarted, all the bookmarks were gone from FireFox, meaning when I go to the bookmarks button, nothing shows anymore. What happened? They are really gone or where to find a backup to get them back again? I don't recall ever backing them up on purpose, so if there was a backup, it would have been an automatic thing. Please give input. Thank you!

That is strange!

If you check the Restore menu in the Library window -- see the following article for details -- are there any backups listed that have a large number of items?

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer

If there are no backups listed, or none from older days:

Here are the next two things to check:

Old Firefox Data

Sometimes during an update Firefox will perform a refresh. That SHOULD preserve bookmarks, saved logins, your last set of tabs, etc. A Refresh moves your entire old Firefox profile folder to your desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder. Do you see anything like that? If so, we can guide you in manually copy/pasting some of those old files to your currently live profile.

Profile Manager Page

Could you check whether your stuff is available in a different profile, as follows:

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not use any Remove buttons!)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have any other profiles listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Anything interesting there?
