This new 'update' has just caused me to lose all my tabs and bookmarks. The new version is c**p and it is awful. I went to the page to install the previous version I liked and worked perfectly and when I installed I now have none of my tabs and bookmarks. My pc is nearly unusable and I am now out of business until I can get them back if I can. It will be months to try to get back to where I was and will never get all of what I had. Is there any way to fix this? I need help immediately.

Chosen solution

Hi helpful55, Did the profile selector come up or the firefox main window? If you firefox starts with that "create new profile" thing, it means your old profile is still there.

Try to do this: first, open your command prompt and go to the programs folder in your command line like: cd c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ and run firefox.exe --allow-downgrade -p. You don't need administrative rights!

It should show up the profile selector with your profiles where you can choose among them... probably you did not have a specific profile name, so try one by one, one of them should be your old profile.

Can you go to your firefox profile folder to see if your old profile is there? In explorer you should enable the hidden items since the AppData folder is hidden. Your profile folder is: c:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ There should be one or more SOMETHINGRANDOMSTRINGS.default folders there.

(LeldeSekstello): There may be a way to change settings to stop updates completely but for now you can go to options and under updates select "Check for updates but let you choose to install them". And check decline when you get notifications. I am using what was recommended here with the version 78. Check that out. And otherwise if you lost all of your bookmarks and/or your tabs did you try using the chosen solution ideas? You have to run those commands in "Run" from your start button. And if still no go search here for info on how to find your saved profile info and how to reinsert into your browser appdata files.

I am not happy with what happened for me. When ffox does some major change update they need to warn us ahead of time what changes it will do and have a way to easily revert if we don't like it. Remember at some point if you don't update it may cause some security problems. That is why I am using the version 78. Older but supported with security updates.

Step one: How do you completely turn off update checks in Firefox v64? You can use a policies.json file to disable updates for all users. https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md or https://winaero.com/blog/disable-updates-firefox-63-above/

You can use a policies.json file in the distribution folder in the Firefox installation folder instead as also listed in the article, so no need to use GPO keys in the Windows Registry. • https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/customizing-firefox-using-policiesjson

Step two: Note: Some versions of Quantum change how the data files are set up, so they may not be backward compatible.

Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.
