I'm using FF88.0.1 on macOS 10.14.6

I'm a regular participant in the Microsoft Answers Community. When replying to messages there today a space appears when I press the space bar but as soon as I type the next character the space closes & the text runs together. E.g. instead of This is a sentence the text appears as Thisisasentence. If I then go back & re-insert the spaces they are retained but that is a royal pain.

This is a new behavior as of today. I have confirmed that this does not occur when using Safari nor does it occur when replying in the Apple support community.

I'd appreciate any insight on this.

Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

I have not experienced the issue with other sites, but as I wrote originally the issue doesn’t occur even with the Microsoft Answers site when using other browsers.

I have since used Troubleshooting Mode as well as having run the Refresh routine. Neither have made a difference.

I’ve also been advised by the support folks at Microsoft that there seems to be an issue specific to Firefox. Apparently it is present on both the Mac & Windows platforms, possibly due to adoption of a new editor. They are aware of & have escalated it.

It doesn’t seem to be anything that can be corrected at the user level & even though it has been [tentatively] explained I can’t mark it as “Solved".
