You cannot block emails - Thunderbird just downloads what is on server, but you can have them filtered to another folder or deleted. check your 'Message Filters' to see if something is catching those emails and deleting them. If you do not have 'Filter Log' enabled then suggest you enable it as it may be useful in working out if those emails are being deleted by one of your filters.

Do you use a Mailwasher program that intervenes between server and Thunderbird ? If yes, then it might be the cause of removal of emails before they get to Thunderbird.

If you have a POP mail account, then perhaps the server spam filter is putting the emails into the server 'Spam' folder. POP accounts cannot access the server 'Spam' folder, they only get access to the server 'Inbox'. So, Logon to webmail account via a browser and see if the emails are being put into the server 'Spam' folder. If yes, Mark them as not spam to put them into Inbox, so you can download them. Check you do not have any filters running in the webmail account which may be causing it.

Get that person to send another identical email and check to see if it arrives in the webmail account - remember to refresh the page. If it is not getting into your webmail account, then Thunderbird cannot download something that does not exist. This may mean that person is sending emails the server spam filter does not like, so they are not even getting through to your account. They should try sending a simple text email - maybe they were ending emails that looked like spam eg: had too many links etc.

That person should check to see if their email address or IP addresses has been blacklisted and seek remedy as you cannot do anything about it if that is the case.

If you are not getting some emails and then you may get a few and it's a bit sporadic in general, please check to see how many emails are on the server. You may have reached your quota. If that occurs then your account cannot receive any more emails until you delete some off server to create space. POP accounts may have less space than IMAP accounts and need old emails being removed from server.
