Firefox (Mac, v88) just stopped working this morning

I was using Firefox this morning and suddenly it stopped loading web pages. At first I thought I had lost connection with the Internet, but that wasn't the case. Other browsers worked perfectly. The weird thing is that Firefox could connect via an iPhone hotspot (using wireless), but that was the only way. I have checked everything I could think of, including completely uninstalling FF (and all supporting files) then reinstalling, but no joy.

I have already spent several hours researching and troubleshooting this, and unless this is a simple fix, I think I'm done with FF and back to Safari.

Short version: FF suddenly stopped loading pages in the middle of a session where nothing else was going on, and I can't get back on the Internet.
