Links are not clickable when composing a message to allow placing the cursor in the link to edit. They do become clickable in the sent message, as you can confirm by opening it in the Sent folder, or viewing a saved draft.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

Yes, that is the problem. A number of friends have reported not receiving an email because it had an active link.

So is there a way to send a URL without it being clickable?

Regards

Your problem is different: if recipients can't receive messages with links, they should unblock or whitelist your address so the mail filters at their end do not reject messages with links.

Can I change any settings in Thunderbird so that the url is not clickable? I know I can add other characters so that it is not a url, but this confuses people. A graphic would solve the problem I know.

For example on an email I could use charlie at something.com. by not using the @ sign it solves the problem. Is there one for a URL? Regards

In a Write window Copy paste a link to a website page. example : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1332059 Highlight all the link Insert > Html

You will a small window with the same text as the link. http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1332059 Edit the content so it now says: text for link note the http:// has been removed - support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1332059 or just remove the http:// part so it only says: support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1332059

Whilst in this forum webpage a link is still created using the remainder of separated link, in the email I tested it showed only as text. In the received email, when I copied the last part, the section that looks like a link in this forum question and pasted it into the browser, the correct page opened. It might be worth trying to see if it works for you. But I cannot guarrantee what occurs in other email clients or indeed if user is viewing via webmail as the software may auto convert into a link as most people do want links to appear as links.

For example when I viewed same email in: Thunderbird gmail imap account - looked like text In the gmail webmail account using a browser - all displayed as links.

Although, I do agree with sfhowes that you should not need to be going to these lengths, the recipient needs to sort out the issue they are experiencing.

Hi,

Thanks for your help and possible solution.

Many people and companies set their email and anti-virus settings to reject any active link as a security measure, straight into the junk box.

I will play around and see what works, will it work for all email clients? that is the problem. Regards

I have a question that I would like answered, but, I can't seem to find the button to start a new topic. I am stuck in a loop between <get help> and the Thunderbird forum page...

Can anyone point to the page where i can start a new topic please?

TIA nn.

From within Thunderbird:

  • Help > Thunderbird Help
  • Scroll down and click on 'Ask the community'
  • Select 'Thunderbird'
  • On far right where it says 'Ask the Community' - click on 'Ask Now'

From within a forum question like this one:

  • Top of webpage - click on 'Get Help' and select 'Ask the community' from drop down.
  • Select 'Thunderbird'
  • On far right where it says 'Ask the Community' - click on 'Ask Now'
