Right click on the file and and extract here

You should then have a folder named Firefox
Inside the folder just look for the Firefox executable file(firefox-bin) and double click it
You will then have a separate working Firefox

I set up a new profile and launched it in a new window. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem although it started off better than usual. Once it had crashed the first time, it then crashed rapidly in sucsession.
