From what I can see and how I think Thunderbird is just an absolutely marvelous program. It's much more efficient for printing emails and organizing data. So there seems to be some sort of missing link or something that I'm missing because I've used Thunderbird before and I've never had this problem. I'm using Windows 10 Pro with the Firefox browser. I also have Gmail or Google installed also. The Gmail account seems to work more reliably than YAHOO I've not been able to get it to work properly, I get IMAP timeout for my yahoo mail account.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software to no avail. I do not wish or desire to be an expert in Thunderbird. I just want IT to work.

What are your Yahoo settings? Should be imap.mail.yahoo.com on 993, SSL/TLS, OAuth2 authentication, User Name = User Name. Same for outgoing, except smtp.mail.yahoo.com on 465. Timeouts are often caused by antivirus, so what's the AV and its mail scanning options?

Thank you for your response, I am using McAfee antivirus provided by CenturyLink. I have Norton 360 installed but is supposed to be expired . I checked to remove the Norton 360 but I have to remove everything. I use the password version or part of that program.

I am still getting that IMAP timeout

McAfee is well known to cause problems such as timeouts. To test if this is the case, you could run Windows in safe mode to bypass startup apps, or simply remove McAfee temporarily and revert to Windows Defender. See if that helps, providing you have the correct settings as stated in my first reply.
