After a recent upgrade...I got an error message about an 85/86 discrepancy. I was told to delete and restore Firefox....Now I can't load Firefox because of a 7-Zip error "Can not create temp folder file." Please help.

hello sdix.

i dont think deleting the folders was a good idea. Firefox is supposed to do that for you when it upgrades itself to a newer version.

What you might could do is to open your windows delete folder and do a restore of the deleted files. They will then be restored by windows. Afterwards, we can then start again with resolving your conflict issues.

Another option is to restore windows to a former time, when it was all working good for you. WIndows has a system restore feature and invoking a restore point, will restablish your operating system and its applications. Afterwards, we can the start again with resolving your conflicts.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;

Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.

If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Quote: "Can not create temp folder"

This is an error reported by the 7-ZIP extractor that tries to extract the Firefox installer archive and that isn't able to create a folder to expand the files. The Firefox installer is a self extracting 7-ZIP archive that unpacks to a folder in the Windows temp folder.

We have seen reports in the past that this can be caused by an IT department policy or security software to block 7-ZIP packed applications.

Hi Fred McD...this did not solve the problem. After I downloaded the Firefox Setup 87.0exe file as you

suggested, could not open it because of the 7- Zip error message.

Tried several times to open in safe mode...it does but does not let me access networking.

Why should re-installing Firefox be so difficult?

more options

It shouldn't be difficult, but on Windows there is lots of security software around and each can have their own issues and restrictions. This software is disabled if you boot in Windows Safe Mode.

What security software do you have?

Best it Usually to use security software provided by Microsoft and not from other companies as those usually include features that regularly break things in Firefox.

Cor El....As I stated before, I get the same error message in Safe Mode concerning 7-zip...the security software I use is Bitefender, and I've been using it for multiple years.

I cannot believe that something as silly as a lost file can stop me using your product, which actually I've been using for decades. I hate Microsoft Edge.

Please help me. Stephen
